Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf praises America for realizing Muslim values
Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, whose Park51 Community Center project in lower Manhattan was vilified as the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” last year, addressed the 2011 General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association this morning.
He spoke about the common ground between core Muslim values and core American values. “It is no accident to me,” he said, “that the concepts mentioned in the Declaration of Independence express values that are perhaps not religious language in the parochial sense of religious language, but expressed truth that any believer in God would feel, yes, this is our set of principles and our set of beliefs.”
