Washington moves toward marriage equality, and other UUs in the media

Same-sex marriage fight progresses in Washington State

With Washington State on the road to legalizing same-sex marriage, newspapers there have begun to focus on religious responses to the news. The Bellingham Herald looks at local congregations that support marriage equality, including the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship. George Stratton, of the Olympic UU Fellowship on the peninsula, is interviewed in an article about which Sequim-area churches will host and conduct same-sex marriage ceremonies. And a group of more than 40 people gathered at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island in Freeland, Wash., to celebrate Gov. Chris Gregoire’s signing of the same-sex marriage bill into law. (The Bellingham Herald – 2.11.12, Sequim Gazette – 2.15.12, South Whidbey Record – 2.14.12)
