UUs remember Sikh temple victims

In response to the tragic shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisc., on August 5, UUs around the country voiced their support for the Sikh community at public gatherings. (CNN)

Maggie Mooha and other members of the UU Congregation of Las Vegas took part in a candlelight vigil “to offer optimism and support.” (Las Vegas Sun – 8.9.12)

The Rev. Mark Gallagher of the UU Church of Vancouver, Wash., spoke at a local interfaith vigil to remember the victims of the Wisconsin shooting. (The Columbian – 8.10.12)

Hundreds of people, including Julie Celebi of the First Unitarian Church of San Jose, Calif., attended an interfaith vigil in honor of the six victims who died in the Sikh temple shooting. (SFGate – 8.10.12)

UUA President Peter Morales released a statement about the shootings, expressing his sadness and saying, “As we move forward in the weeks and months ahead, we must do more than express compassion. We must reflect on what conditions make repeated acts of deranged violence possible and take action.” (UUA.org – 8.6.12)
